Early in 2022, a widespread disruption impacted Microsoft Exchange servers globally. Self-hosted Exchange servers experienced a mail outage beginning at midnight on New Year’s Day. This malfunction stemmed from the date conversion of 01/01/2022. The numerical representation, 220101000, triggered a failure within the server’s anti-malware engine, a component designed to filter malicious software, resulting in a complete halt to email transmissions.
This issue significantly affected numerous Mac users within businesses and organizations, given the prevalent use of Exchange servers for email communication.
