Walmart, the US and world’s largest retail chain, has begun abandoning its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, joining a growing list of large companies doing so under pressure from conservative activists.
The company confirmed to the AP news agency on Monday that it will better monitor third-party deliveries to make sure they don’t include sexual and transgender products aimed at minors.
Walmart will also review funding for Pride events to ensure that sexual content for children is not being financially supported. For example, the company will make sure that the family pavilion is not located next to a drag show at a Pride event.
Walmart will no longer consider race and gender as ways to increase diversity when bidding on supplier contracts. The company stated that it has had no race and gender quotas and will not have them in the future. It will also end the collection of demographic data when determining who to allocate funds to.
Walmart confirmed the change after conservative political commentator and DEI policy opponent Robbie Starbuck posted on the social media platform X that he had reached out to Walmart on a story about “wokeness” and had “productive negotiations” with this chain of stores.
“This is the biggest victory yet for our movement to end complacency in corporate America,” wrote Starbuck, who has targeted US companies such as Deere & Co., Lowe’s, Tractor Supply and Boeing in his campaign against DEI’s policies.

(Walks on stage, adjusts mic stand, clears throat) Ah, hello there, folks! So, it seems Walmart, the retail giant, has decided to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. (Pauses for comedic effect) Oh, what a shock! A massive corporation bowing to pressure from conservative activists. I mean, who wouldn’t want to alienate a significant portion of their customer base? (Sarcastic tone) Brilliant business strategy, if you ask me.
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Walmart will no longer consider race and gender when bidding on supplier contracts. Because, you know, the best way to promote diversity is to ignore it altogether. (Rolls eyes) I mean, who needs quotas when you can just pretend everyone is equal, right? It’s not like systemic racism and sexism are still rampant in the US or anything. (Heavy sarcasm)
And, in a move that’s sure to delight parents everywhere, Walmart will review funding for Pride events to ensure that “sexual content for children” isn’t being financially supported. (Air quotes) “Sexual content for children.” You know, like drag shows. (In a mocking tone) Oh, the horror! A drag show might corrupt the innocent minds of our youth. I mean, it’s not like they’re going to find more explicit content on their smartphones or anything. (Chuckles)
But wait, there’s more! Walmart will also end the collection of demographic data when determining who to allocate funds to. Because, you know, data is overrated. (Sarcastic tone) Who needs to know who’s actually being served by their programs? It’s not like that’s relevant information or anything.
And, of course, this all came about after conservative commentator Robbie Starbuck (in a mocking tone) “reached out” to Walmart and had “productive negotiations.” (Air quotes) “Productive negotiations.” I’m sure that’s exactly what happened. (Winks) I mean, who wouldn’t want to listen to a conservative commentator with a clear agenda? It’s not like they have a vested interest in promoting their own ideology or anything. (Scoffs)
(Sighs) Ah, well, it seems like Walmart has joined the ranks of other companies that have abandoned their DEI policies under pressure from conservative activists. (Shrugs) I guess that’s just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. But hey, at least they’re consistent. (Deadpan) I mean, who needs diversity and inclusion when you can have… well, whatever it is they’re offering instead? (Shrugs again)
That’s all for today, folks. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of “Corporate Capitulation.” (Winks) Join us next time when we’ll probably be talking about another company that’s abandoned its values in favor of appeasing conservative activists. (Chuckles) Ah, the never-ending cycle of corporate cowardice. (Smirks) Stay woke, everyone! (Winks)
In a significant shift, Walmart, the world’s largest retail chain, has started to dismantle its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, succumbing to mounting pressure from conservative activists who have been vocal about their opposition to such initiatives. This move is part of a growing trend among large corporations, which have been gradually abandoning their DEI policies in response to criticism from conservative groups.
The retail giant confirmed to the Associated Press on Monday that it will be closely monitoring third-party deliveries to prevent the distribution of products containing sexual and transgender content that may be targeted towards minors. As part of this effort, Walmart will conduct thorough reviews of all products supplied by third-party vendors to ensure that they meet the company’s standards for family-friendly content.
Additionally, Walmart will be reassessing its funding for Pride events to ensure that it is not inadvertently supporting the promotion of sexual content to children. For instance, the company will verify that family-oriented activities are not situated near drag shows or other events that may be deemed unsuitable for minors at Pride events. This move aims to strike a balance between supporting the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring that all events are family-friendly.
Walmart has also announced that it will no longer consider factors such as race and gender when evaluating bids for supplier contracts. The company emphasized that it has never had quotas based on race or gender and has no intention of implementing them in the future. Furthermore, Walmart will cease collecting demographic data when determining the allocation of funds to various initiatives, as part of its effort to adopt a more neutral approach.
The change in Walmart’s DEI policies was confirmed after conservative commentator and DEI policy opponent Robbie Starbuck revealed on the social media platform X that he had engaged in “productive negotiations” with the retail chain. Starbuck, who has been an outspoken critic of DEI policies, has targeted several US companies, including Deere & Co., Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, and Boeing, as part of his campaign to end what he perceives as “wokeness” in corporate America.
Starbuck hailed Walmart’s decision as a major victory for his movement, stating, “This is the biggest victory yet for our movement to end complacency in corporate America.” His efforts have sparked a growing debate about the role of DEI policies in the corporate world and the impact of conservative activism on company policies.
