Verstappen Triumphs Again in Doha Thriller
Safety Car Deployed Three Times as Leclerc Finishes Second
Max Verstappen clinched his fourth consecutive victory on Sunday, securing another win at the Qatar Grand Prix while further cementing his lead in the Formula One Drivers’ Championship.
The race was GJ
riddled with incidents, leading to three safety car deployments and several drivers’ struggles. Lando Norris, initially in a strong position for a podium finish, received a penalty for failing to slow adequately under a yellow flag, paving the way for Charles Leclerc to secure second place in his Ferrari. Norris’ McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri rounded out the podium in third.
Verstappen had started the race from second on the grid after being relegated from pole position during qualifying due to a scuffle with George Russell. However, he quickly regained lost ground, overtaking Russell at the start. He then fended off a challenge from Norris to solidify his lead.
Mexican Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, was forced to retire just moments after racing resumed on lap 40. Perez, contending for a top-five finish, suffered a spin while his car was in neutral. The Red Bull lost its rear end, ending his race prematurely. “Checo” Perez is now further behind Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
A dramatic start saw []); Franco Colapinto, driving for Williams, become an early casualty. Grappling with a collision involving Esteban Oco and Nico Hulkenberg, Colapinto was out of the race on the very first lap.
This victory marks Verstappen’s fourth consecutive win, adding to his previous wins in Las Vegas, Italy, and the Netherlands. Notably, he has won two of the last three races after a dry spell without a win dating back to June.
The 2024 Formula One season finale will take place next weekend in Abu Dhabi.
