A treasure trove of unreleased Michael Jackson recordings has been found in a forgotten storage unit in Van Nuys, California. The tapes, which feature 12 tracks Jackson worked on prior to his Risky album, were discovered by Gregg musgrove, a former California Highway Patrol officer turned stay-at-home dad.
Musgrove acquired the unit, which previously belonged to music producer and singer Bryan loren, through an associate. The whereabouts of Loren are currently unknown.
“I’ve gone to all the fan sites.Some of them [the songs] are rumored to exist, some of them have been leaked a little bit,” Musgrove told The Hollywood Reporter. “A couple aren’t even out there in the world.”
Musgrove’s inventory list, which he shared, includes not only the complete tracks but also snippets of other unreleased songs. On the tapes, Jackson, along with Loren, can be heard discussing the recording and creative process.
“I’m listening to this stuff, and I would get goosebumps as nobody’s ever heard this stuff before,” Musgrove said. “To hear Michael Jackson actually talk and kind of joke back and forth,it was really,really cool.”
