An Archyde Interview with Aiden Drunsic
Alex thompson: Aiden, congratulations on being named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week! Your career-high four goals against Rutgers were instrumental in the comeback victory. What clicked for you in that game, especially in the second half when you scored three of those goals?
Aiden Drunsic: Thanks, Alex! Honestly, it was a team effort. We made adjustments at halftime, focusing on moving the ball quicker and creating better scoring opportunities. My teammates were finding me in good spots, and I just tried to capitalize on those chances. The Rutgers defense was tough, but we were able to wear them down as the game went on.
Alex Thompson: Those second-half adjustments clearly worked. Your ability to find the back of the net played a huge role in UMass outscoring Rutgers 7-1. How important is that kind of offensive surge for the team’s confidence moving forward?
Aiden Drunsic: It’s huge. Knowing we can come back from a deficit and dominate the second half builds immense confidence. We’re a resilient team, and that performance showed everyone what we’re capable of when we play together and execute our game plan.
Behind the Mask with Owen Salanger
Alex Thompson: Owen, congratulations to you as well on securing the A-10 Rookie of the Week title. A stellar 13-save performance, improving your record to 6-0…What’s been the key to your success so far in your freshman year?
Owen Salanger: Thanks, Alex! It feels great to contribute to the team’s success. A big part is definitely the defense in front of me – they make my job much easier by forcing tough shots. I just try to stay focused, trust my instincts, and make the saves I’m supposed to make.
Alex thompson: Your stats – a 7.00 GAA and a .650 save percentage – are truly remarkable for a freshman. How do you handle the pressure of being the starting goalie, especially with the increasing expectations?
Owen Salanger: I try not to focus too much on the pressure. I just focus on each game, each play, and trust my preparation. The upperclassmen on the team have been incredibly supportive, helping me stay grounded and focused on what’s important.
looking Ahead to the UMass Lacrosse Season
