The Ukrainian national team has defied the difficult political conditions it has been facing for several months, and is one step away from ascending to the FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled in Qatar this year, following passing the hurdle of Scotland, in the European qualifying supplement for the World Cup.
Ukraine reached the final of the first track of the European play-off for the World Cup qualifiers, following its 3-1 victory over Scotland in the semi-finals of the play-off, today, at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland.
The match was scheduled for last March, but it was decided to postpone it to today due to the repercussions of the Russian war on Ukraine, which began last February.
The Ukrainian team advanced through Andriy Yarmolenko in the 33rd minute, before his colleague Roman Yarymchuk added the second goal in the 49th minute.
The Scottish team ignited the match in the last minutes, following reducing the difference with a goal signed by Callum McGregor in the 79th minute, so that the owners of the land tried to equalize in the remaining time of the match, and push the match into overtime.
Ukraine eliminated the ambitions of its Scottish counterpart, following Artem Dovik scored the third goal for the visitors in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the second half.
With this victory, the Ukraine team hit a date in the final round of this track with the Wales team, which beat its Austrian counterpart 2-1 in the semi-finals of this track, in order to determine the team qualified for the World Cup finals, which will be held during the months of November and December of this year.
The draw for the group stage of the Qatar World Cup, which was held last April, placed the winner of the match between Wales and Ukraine in Group B, which includes England, Iran and the United States of America.
