Tigers Dominate Grizzlies in 39-11 Wrestling Victory
The Fort Hays State Tigers women’s wrestling team roared to a 3-1 overall record with a commanding 39-11 dual victory over the Adams State Grizzlies Saturday night. The Tigers secured their victory with an impressive eight bonus-point wins – five pins, one technical fall, and two forfeit victories – showcasing their dominance on the mat.
The Tigers’ pin parade started early, with Isabella Cross securing her fastest fall of the season in just 26 seconds at 110 pounds. Kaylee Ricketts wasn’t far behind, achieving a pin of her own at 160 pounds in a whirlwind 45 seconds. Isabella Renfro continued the momentum, pinning her opponent at 180 pounds in just over a minute. Ashlynn Goodwin (145 pounds) secured a pin in 2:42, and newly nationally ranked Lexie Lopez (124 pounds) controlled her opponent, securing the fall in 5:05. Lopez is currently ranked 10th in the nation at 124 pounds.
Jamie Laswell contributed the team’s lone technical fall victory of the night with a 12-2 score at 131 pounds. Meanwhile, Arianna Ortiz (103 pounds) and Lindsey Lopez (117 pounds) both earned forfeit wins, capitalizing on open weight classes for the Grizzlies.
Adams State put up a fight, scoring two wins via pin. Corrie Williams secured a fall over Nichole Moore at 138 pounds in 4:03, and Brooke Newton pinned Ciara Monger at 207 pounds in 1:38.
The Tigers will return to the mat on Sunday, December 1, as action heats up in the second annual FHSU-Bob Smith Open. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.
