These are the guidelines for returning to face-to-face classes in Ecuador

The beginning of the second semester of the Sierra-Amazon regime of this February 7, 2022 was with the return of the students to the classrooms.

The provisions that will govern face-to-face classes Sierra-Amazonía

  • Baccalaureate and Higher Basic students from all educational institutions that offer this sublevel will attend in person. Similarly, it applies to students from the first grade of Basic General Education, up to the Third year of Baccalaureate who are enrolled in single-teacher, two-teacher or multi-teacher educational establishments in the rural sector.
  • The educational institution must report to the district the cases of students with catastrophic or aggravating illnesses and design an individual plan, according to their condition.
  • At all traffic lights, voluntary face-to-face attendance of all elementary and middle school students enrolled in urban educational institutions, respecting a maximum capacity of 2.25m2 per person in all grades and courses (this capacity allows a distance of 1.5 m between each student in the classroom). The institutions will be able to organize themselves and divide the students by groups and schedules in different days, respecting the maximum capacity. When a grade has 85% or more of students vaccinated with two doses, they can return to 100% attendance.
  • When a degree of education elementary basic and middle basic in urban educational institutions, has exceeded 85% of its students vaccinated with two doses, the educational institution may, in agreement with the families, have face-to-face attendance of all students in that grade or course.
  • At green and yellow traffic lights, students under 5 years of age may voluntarily attend face-to-face education with a maximum capacity of 2.25m2 per person. At a red traffic light, the maximum capacity allowed must be calculated at 50% of the available physical capacity
  • Private, trustee and municipal institutions and CDIs may avail themselves of the provisions detailed above or may reach an agreement with the community to resume attendance by all students when the canton is at green or yellow traffic lights. In the event that the canton is at a red light, they will be able to reach an agreement with the families to continue with distance education while the canton remains in that category.

The guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and approved in the Resolution of the National COE on January 22, 2022 will remain in force until the end of the 2021-2022 school year, on March 11, 2022.

When a grade or course has exceeded 85% of its students vaccinated with two doses, the educational institution may, in agreement with the families, have face-to-face attendance of all students in that grade or course.

The Ministry of Education recommends that, if the canton is at a yellow or green traffic light, all educational institutions with private, fiscomisional, municipal and fiscal support must offer the option of attendance in all grades and courses for which they have students enrolled.
