Sharjah 24 – WAM:
A high -level delegation from the UAE participated in the first foreign ministers meeting of the Group of Twenty in Johannesburg, headed by His Excellency Ahmed Al -Sayegh, Minister of State and the UAE “Sherba” for the Group of Twenty.
The delegation included His Excellency Saeed Al -Hajri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Commercial Affairs, His Excellency Mahasa Saeed Al Hamli, the UAE ambassador to the Republic of South Africa and the UAE deputy “Sherba”.
The meeting was opened by President Cyril Ramafuza, President of the Republic of South Africa. The events included two main sessions: the first dealt with the global geopolitical situation, and the second focused on the goals of the Group of Twenty for the year 2025. During the meeting, the achievements achieved by the Group of Twenty in recent years were reviewed.
His Excellency Al -Sayegh stressed during the meeting the firm commitment of the UAE to support efforts to calm tensions by prevailing in diplomacy and dialogue to build mutual understanding. His Excellency also expressed the UAE’s support for the presidency of South Africa for the Group of Twenty and its main priorities, stressing that the state, as a guest in the group, will support the aspirations and goals of developing and less developed economies in the various paths of the group.
The Republic of South Africa has called on the UAE to participate as a guest during the 2025 G20 summit, which is held under the slogan: “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability”. This invitation is the sixth participation of the state in the group, where it participated in the group’s summit in France in 2011 and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2020, Indonesia in 2022, then India in 2023 and Brazil in 2024.

Al-Sayegh: Firstly, we appreciated South africa’s presidency and their ability to bring together diverse economies to tackle global challenges. we discussed the geopolitical situation and the G20’s goals for 2025. It was encouraging to see a collective commitment to multilateralism and dialog.
Archyde: And what were some of the challenges discussed?
Al-Sayegh: Global economic uncertainty, trade tensions, and of course, the impact of conflict on innocent lives.We must address these issues together to build a more resilient and inclusive world.
The UAE’s Role in Global Diplomacy
Archyde: The UAE’s active participation in the G20 is commendable. How does this align with the nation’s foreign policy?
al-Sayegh: The UAE firmly believes in the power of diplomacy and dialogue. We use our voice in these platforms to promote global peace,security,and cooperation. Our participation reflects our commitment to supporting the aspirations of developing and less developed economies.
Archyde: Your Excellency,you stressed the UAE’s support for South Africa’s G20 presidency. What specifically does this entail?
Al-Sayegh: We support South Africa’s priorities, including infrastructure investment, digital transformation, and sustainability.These areas are crucial for inclusive growth, and we’re ready to collaborate and contribute where we can.
Looking Ahead: G20 under the UAE’s Alex Reedship
Archyde: south Africa has invited the UAE as a guest country for the 2025 G20 Summit. What are your thoughts on this responsibility?
Al-Sayegh: It’s a recognition of the UAE’s growing role in global affairs. We look forward to sharing our experiences and best practices. Our theme, “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability,” will guide our participation.
Archyde: Your Excellency, what message do you hope the global community takes away from the UAE’s involvement in the G20?
