Today, the second death anniversary of the great Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is being celebrated, on this occasion there is a shutter down strike in the occupied valley. The Hurriyat leader was a staunch supporter of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan, and throughout his life raised his voice against atrocities, human rights violations and the freedom movement.

Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani was born in 1929 in the village of Zari Manj in Tehsil Bandipora, he was also elected three times as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Occupied Kashmir.

Syed Ali Geelani was a member of National Conference, Jamaat-e-Islami and Tehreek Hurriyat and founded the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in 1993. He was elected Chairman for life by the leadership in 2015.

The deceased was detained for 11 years on the orders of the usurping Indian governments and met Khaliq Haqiqi on September 1, 2021 in Hyderabad, Srinagar, while his body was wrapped in a khaki Pakistani flag and lowered into the coffin.

The Hurriyat leader was a staunch supporter of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan, raising his voice against atrocities, human rights violations and the freedom movement throughout his life.

On his death, the funeral prayer was held in absentia in the National Assembly and the national flag was hoisted while Ali Geelani was awarded the highest civilian award Nishan-e-Pakistan.

On the other hand, on the call of Hurriyat Conference today, to pay homage to Syed Ali Geelani, the leader of the resistance movement of Kashmir, on the second death anniversary, he went to Haiderpura in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir under the illegal rule of India. A march will be held.
