Schreiner Women’s Shootout Shortened Due to High winds

Kerrville, Texas – The Schreiner Women’s Shootout concluded early after high winds forced the cancellation of the final day.The event, held at The Club at Comanche Trace, was reduced to a single round.

Opening round Results

The Ladies finished in 10th place after shooting a 92-over par 380 in Monday’s opening round, which served as their spring season opener.

Several players stood out for The Ladies:

  • Freshman Amber Shaw (Hughes Springs, Texas) led the team, shooting a 19-over par 91, tying for 48th place.
  • Sophomore Jordyn Templeton (Columbus,Texas) finished in 54th place with a 22-over 94.
  • Mya Thompson (South Jordan,Utah),also a sophomore,shot a 23-over 95,landing in 57th place.
  • Freshman Haylee Crowder (Haughton, La.) carded a 28-over 100, placing 61st.

Amber Shaw’s performance is noteworthy, as she “led the way for the ladies on Monday as she shot a 19-over par 91.”

Looking Ahead

The Ladies will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational at The Golf Club at Stonebridge from March 17-18.

Reflecting on the Schreiner Shootout

Archyde: Coach Sterling, thanks for taking the time to speak with us. The Schreiner Women’s Shootout was cut short due to weather. How did the team handle the abrupt change in plans?

Coach Sterling: It was definitely a disappointment for everyone involved. The ladies were eager to compete, but the safety of the players is always paramount. We used the unexpected downtime to refocus and analyze the one round we did play. It’s a good lesson in adaptability, something that’s crucial in golf and in life.

Analyzing the Opening round

Archyde: The team finished in 10th place. Can you break down the team’s overall performance in that opening round?

Coach Sterling: It wasn’t our best showing, understandably. This was our spring season opener, and there’s always some rust to shake off.We had some solid individual moments, but consistency is what we’re striving for. We know we’re capable of much better, and we’re using this tournament as a learning experience to improve our course management and mental game.

Archyde: Amber Shaw led the team with a 91. What are your thoughts on her performance, and how did other team members like Jordyn Templeton and Mya thompson perform?

Coach Sterling: Amber’s performance was encouraging, especially as a freshman. She demonstrated great composure and resilience. Jordyn and Mya also showed flashes of their potential. Each player brings something unique to the team, and we’re working together to build on their strengths.

Archyde: The Ladies are hosting the Hal Sutton Invitational soon. What are your expectations for this event?

Coach Sterling: We’re incredibly excited to host the Hal Sutton Invitational. It’s a great opportunity for our team to compete on our home course and showcase their talent in front of our fans. We’re focused on improving our consistency and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Ultimately, we want to put on a great performance and honour the legacy of Hal Sutton.

Archyde: How do tournaments like the Schreiner Women’s Shootout and the upcoming Hal Sutton Invitational contribute to the overall growth and growth of the Centenary college Women’s Golf Team?

Coach Sterling: Each tournament gives us a chance to identify areas where we can grow. This allows us to implement targeted practice routines, and refine individual player development plans. The experience gained by competing in the Schreiner Women’s Shootout is invaluable, and helps grow the Ladies golf team.
