Ryan Reynolds Allegedly Altered His SNL Joke, Longtime SNL Crew Member Claims

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were one of the big names to attend the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary event. The real-life married couple, who met on the set of Green Lantern, have always been in the headlines due to their global popularity but even more so with the ongoing legal battle with Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni.

As the proclamation of Blake Lively’s complaint and subsequent lawsuit and amended lawsuit, both camps have experienced backlash. The public is divided between defending Lively and Reynolds versus Baldoni, and the A-list couple shocked everyone when they stepped up the glamour for SNL50: The Anniversary Special, with Reynolds jumping on a sketch. However, a longtime SNL crew member alleged Reynolds’ joke was improvised during an appearance on the Fifi, fev & Nick podcast.

During a sketch with SNL favorites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, ryan Reynolds stood up, and the duo asked him, “Ryan Reynolds, how’s it going?” to which he breezily responded, “Great! Why, what have you heard?” Multiple people slammed the actor for his on-brand humor, noting the joke was weird considering his wife’s sexual harassment lawsuit. Others defended the Deadpool star, highlighting that his signature humor might be a coping mechanism.

During a new podcast, SNL‘s Cue Card Wally, whose real name is Chris “Wally” Feresten, revealed Reynolds altered the line. The crew member, who has been with the show for 35 years, revealed that for the 50th anniversary, they used some of the most cue cards ever, around 3000 cue cards.

When asked whether Ryan Reynolds’ bit was scripted or improv, Feresten shared, “That was actually… He had a different line in rehearsal,and he pitched that to replace it. So that was his idea to do it. We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it. So yeah,that was his line,that was his idea to do it.
