A new era is dawning at Manchester United as Ruben Amorim settles into his managerial role at Old Trafford. Speculation abounds about the club’s transfer strategy, fueled by the manager’s preferred 3-4-3 formation and the perceived need to bolster the squad.INEOS, United’s owners, are rumored to be ready to back Amorim financially after the tumultuous departures of Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth. While important spending is anticipated during the summer transfer window, whispers suggest that United might make a move or two as early as January.
Eyebrows Raised Over Potential Midfield targets
Reports indicate that two players are top targets for Amorim: Éderson from Atalanta and Diego León, a promising youngster from Paraguay.
Éderson, a 25-year-old Brazilian central midfielder, has flourished under Gian Piero Gasperini’s tutelage at Atalanta since his €20 million transfer from Salernitana in 2022. He played a key role in Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph in Dublin last May, where they comfortably defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plattenburg, United are actively discussing a potential move for Éderson internally. Transfermarkt values the midfielder at approximately €40 million, suggesting that securing his signature would require a substantial financial commitment from the club.
Manchester United are reportedly closing in on two new signings, with deals for Atalanta midfielder Éderson and Cerro Porteño left-back Diego León said to be at advanced stages.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that a deal for the 25-year-old Éderson could be worth around €4 million plus add-ons.León, a 17-year-old who has already made 18 league appearances for Cerro Porteño this year, will join the Red Devils in the summer of 2025. The Paraguayan is expected to cost around $4 million.
These potential signings offer a glimpse into the new regime under INEOS ownership. Journalist Shaun irvine confirmed manchester United’s interest in both players, highlighting the role of Jason Wilcox in the negotiations.

Wilcox, who previously held roles at Southampton and Manchester City’s academy, was brought in by INEOS to lead the club’s new boardroom setup. His appointment came amidst controversy following the departure of Dan Ashworth earlier this week, leading many to question the direction INEOS intended to take the club.
“While its still way too early to answer that question,it’s interesting to see that there’s more defined roles for those working behind the scenes at Old Trafford, something which you couldn’t have said in regimes gone by,” observed one source.
