OMCF Donates $31,000 to Pediatric Clinic, Secures Scholarship Contributions

During the OMC Commissioners meeting held on November 20, the Olympic Medical Center Foundation made a generous donation of $31,000 to support the vital services at the Olympic Medical Center Pediatrics Clinic. In conjunction with this significant contribution, the foundation proudly announced the receipt of two substantial donations aimed at bolstering its scholarship program—$100,000 from philanthropist George Brown and an additional $50,000 from community supporter Margery Whites.

Bruce Skinner, the Executive Director of the OMC Foundation, welcomed the contributions, highlighting the importance of the scholarships aimed at addressing the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in Clallam County. These scholarships are intended not only to help current OMC employees but also to encourage others seeking to further their education and embark on medical careers at institutions like Peninsula College.

At the meeting, Skinner took a moment to acknowledge 14 outstanding individuals who were recently awarded scholarships, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to fostering new talent in the healthcare sector.

“One of the biggest obstacles that current employees, adults who want to change careers, and students face when they want to enter or advance in the healthcare field is the cost,” Skinner noted. “We want to take that out of the equation. This is one of the most satisfying things that the Foundation has ever done.”

He also explained that the foundation’s initiative, in collaboration with OMC, aims to significantly expand the potential workforce available to the medical center. This is crucial, as growing the workforce remains one of the most challenging issues confronting the healthcare industry both locally and across the nation.
