## Interview with Dr. Amina Hassan, African Political Analyst
**Interviewer:** Dr. Hassan, Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema has just concluded a visit to Egypt, meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. What can you tell us about the significance of this meeting?
**Dr. Hassan:** This meeting is quite significant for a number of reasons. Firstly, it reflects the growing ties between Egypt and Gabon. [[1](https://www.egypttoday.com/Article/1/136628/Sisi-receives-Gabonese-president-at-Ittihadiya-palace)]Secondly, given that President Nguema came to power through a military coup in late August this year, this visit serves as a potential endorsement of his leadership from a key regional player like Egypt.
**Interviewer:** Do you think this meeting signals a shift in Egypt’s foreign policy towards military-led governments in Africa?
**Dr. Hassan:** It’s too early to say definitively. Egypt traditionally supports stability in the region, and sometimes that means engaging with leaders who seize power through unconventional means. However, it is crucial to observe Egypt’s stance towards other recent coups on the continent to identify if there is a broader trend emerging.
**Interviewer:** What are some potential areas of cooperation that emerged from this meeting?
**Dr. Hassan:** While the specific details of their discussions haven’t been officially released, both Egypt and Gabon are active in various sectors like energy, infrastructure development, and trade. There is a likelihood that expanding cooperation in these areas was discussed. Additionally, given Egypt’s prominent role in regional security, it’s possible that they are exploring ways to collaborate on addressing shared challenges in the Sahel region.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for sharing your insights, Dr. Hassan.
