The jury has revealed the five finalists vying for the prestigious Above Expectation Prize of 2025. The nominees represent a diverse array of creative solutions designed to enhance the lives of clients. “We were charmed by all the entries and hope that the teams of the plans that were not nominated will refine their plans so they can be implemented,” the jury said. “
Revolutionizing Dining Experiences
This initiative aims to revolutionize dining experiences for individuals with swallowing difficulties. By offering innovative cooking courses, the project seeks to empower participants to easily prepare tasty and visually appealing dishes that cater to their specific needs.
Bringing the Outdoors In
This project focuses on transforming indoor spaces at De Terwebloem into serene outdoor retreats. Recognizing the limitations for many residents to access the garden, the team aims to recreate an inviting outdoor atmosphere within the facility, using elements of nature and design to stimulate engagement and improve well-being.
Connecting Through Sound
This heartwarming initiative introduces the CRDL, a digital singing bowl designed to facilitate connections with individuals who have lost the ability to communicate verbally. Volunteers will be trained in its use, sharing their knowledge with informal caregivers to ensure broad accessibility. The CRDL offers a pathway for meaningful interaction, bridging communication gaps and nurturing relationships between loved ones.
Bringing Art and Culture to Clients
This unique project seeks to enrich the lives of clients by bringing art and culture directly to them. Purchasing a range of presentations from the Hague museum, the initiative plans to offer these enriching experiences at various locations, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
Creating a Dementia-Friendly Environment
A Step to Dementia-Friendly Living
This project focuses on creating a more supportive and navigable environment for residents with dementia within Sonnevanck. By incorporating positive stimuli, including carefully selected sound and light elements, the team aims to promote ease of movement, reduce confusion, and enhance the overall well-being of residents living with dementia.

Could you share any insights into the deliberation process among the judges?
## Interview with a Panel Judge
**Interviewer:** Welcome to the show. The five finalists for the 2025 Above Expectation Prize have just been announced, and it seems like this year’s selections are truly inspiring. Can you tell us a little bit about the selection process and what stood out about these particular projects?
**Judge:** Absolutely! We were inundated with fantastic entries this year, demonstrating the incredible commitment and innovation within our community. Each finalist embodies a deep understanding of the needs of the population they aim to serve. The projects are incredibly diverse, ranging from revolutionizing dining experiences for individuals with swallowing difficulties to using innovative technology to foster communication for those who have lost their voice. [[1](https://honisoit.com/2022/05/2022-archibald-wynne-and-sulman-prizes-life-and-color/)]The Sulman Prize, for example, focuses on genre and subject painting or mural work. While we didn’t see anything like that in this year’s Above Expectation Prize applications, it highlights how diverse and exciting the creative landscape truly is.
**Interviewer:** It’s definitely a compelling mix. Could you elaborate on some of the specific projects that stood out to the judging panel?
**Judge:** Each finalist deserves recognition, but I’ll highlight a few. “The Hap Slik Lekker Challenge,” aims to empower individuals with swallowing difficulties in a truly unique way. Instead of simply providing pre-made meals, they’re offering cooking courses, allowing participants to take control of their own diets and enjoy the social and creative aspects of food preparation.
**Interviewer:** So it’s about going beyond just practical solutions?
**Judge:** Exactly! It’s about empowerment and inclusivity. We also have ”Bring the Outside In,” which seeks to transform indoor spaces into tranquil outdoor sanctuaries. It beautifully acknowledges the limitations that many individuals face in accessing nature and uses design to bring those healing elements indoors.
**Interviewer:** And then there’s “I Hear You, I Feel You,” which caught my eye with its focus on connection through sound.
**Judge:** Absolutely. This project introduces the CRDL, a innovative digital singing bowl designed to facilitate connections with individuals who have lost their ability to communicate verbally. The potential for this technology to bridge communication gaps is profound.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like the jury had a difficult decision this year! Where can our viewers learn more about these inspiring projects and perhaps even support the finalists?
**Judge:** All the finalist projects, along with details about the awards ceremony, can be found on our website. We encourage everyone to learn more about these incredible initiatives and join us in celebrating the commitment and innovation of these outstanding finalists.
**Interviewer:** Thank you so much for your insights. We’re all eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winner!
