Monreal: Congress to Support Sheinbaum in US Relations

Sheinbaum Navigates Complex US Relations, Securing Congressional Support

Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of Morena and president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), expressed support for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s approach to the critical challenges facing Mexico in its relationship with the United States.

In a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Monreal praised Sheinbaum’s “sobriety” and “republican attitude,” emphasizing that her anticipated meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump would be characterized by “strategy, intelligence and without desperation to protect the interests of the population of our countries.”

Monreal declared through the video, “He has acted with sobriety, with a republican attitude. His meeting with the president of the United States will surely take place soon, with strategy, intelligence and without desperation to protect the interests of the population of our countries.”

He further stated, “With character and talent, the president faces the great national challenges: relations with the US, security redesign and an austere budget. In the Congress of the Union we will support your vision, to guarantee sovereignty, peace and well-being for Mexico.”

The upcoming meeting between Sheinbaum and Trump follows a turbulent period marked by Trump’s renewed campaign promises to impose a 25% tariff on products from Mexico, Canada, and China. Trump announced these plans on November 25. Just two days later, on November 27, President Sheinbaum revealed that she had engaged in a phone conversation with the president-elect of the United States. Migration emerged as the central topic of discussion.

After this crucial conversation, Sheinbaum publicly released a letter addressed to Trump, outlining the comprehensive strategy employed by the Mexican government since the beginning of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s term to address the complex issue of migration.
