Michael Cole, Star of ‘The Mod Squad,’ Dies at 84
Michael Cole, an actor best known for his role in the groundbreaking 1968 television series “The Mod Squad,” has died at the age of 84.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our beloved father and friend, Michael,” his agent confirmed. “He brought joy to millions with his talent and charisma. He will be deeply missed.”
Cole, alongside Peggy Lipton and Clarence Williams III, formed the core trio on “The Mod Squad” portraying undercover cops who solved crimes while taking perceived risks and striving to connect with troubled youth.
The show, which gained immense popularity during its five-season run, celebrated its 55th anniversary just recently. “The Mod Squad” tackled social issues that were relevant then and remain so today.
“Michael was more than just an actor; he was a voice for a generation,” said a colleague who worked with him on “The Mod Squad.”
“He had this incredible ability to connect with young people. He made them feel seen and heard.”
Born and raised in California, Cole began his acting career in the early 1960s with guest appearances on popular television shows before landing the pivotal role in “The Mod Squad.”
Beyond television, he graced the screen in notable films like “Slaughter’s Big Rip-Off” (1973) and “The Hit” (1984), theatrically released in 1984.
