Remembering Mary Caulfield: A Beloved Mother and Grandmother
Mary Caulfield (née Mc Cay) of 22 Glen Road, Strabane, formerly of Aghyaran, passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2024, at Altnagelvin Hospital. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her loved ones, who remember her as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a true pillar of her community.
## A Life Filled with Love
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Charlie Caulfield. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and shared experiences. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Marie, and a caring mother-in-law to Peter. Mary’s love extended to her cherished granddaughter, Lisa (Iain), and her great-grandchildren, Jack, Oliver, Charlie, and Ella, who brought immense joy to her later years.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary’s life. She nurtured strong bonds with her siblings, John, Gerry, Rita, Liz, Josephine, Tess, Sadie, Alice, Geraldine, and those who preceded her – Margaret, Jimmy, Terence, Ann, Patricia, Bridie, Rose, Michael, and Cissie. Her warmth and generosity extended to all who knew her, making her a beloved figure in her neighborhood and community.
## Final Farewell
Reposing at her home on Saturday, November 30th, from 4 p.m. onwards, Mary’s family welcomed friends and neighbors to offer their condolences and share memories of her life.
On Monday, December 2nd, at 10:20 a.m., Mary’s funeral cortege departed from her home, making its way to the Sacred Heart Church on Derry Road for an 11 a.m. Requiem Mass. The service was a moving tribute to her life, filled with heartfelt prayers and reflections on her faith and the impact she had on those around her.
Following the Mass, Mary was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, where she will be reunited with her late husband, Charlie.
“Deeply regretted by her sorrowing daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and family circle” – these words eloquently capture the depth of love and loss felt by all who knew and loved Mary.
Those unable to attend the Mass in person were offered the opportunity to pay their respects virtually through the Parish Webcam: https://www.churchservices.tv/leckpatrick. This allowed friends and family from afar to share in the mourning process and celebrate Mary’s life.

From 10 p.m. to 11 a.m. each day, the family respectfully requests some privacy during this difficult time. “Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul.” These words, spoken with love and faith, encapsulate the deep sorrow felt by Mary’s family and friends as they say goodbye to a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.

**Host:** I can only imagine. Your mother’s obituary praised her as a devoted wife and loving mother. Can you tell us a bit about your parents’ relationship?
**Marie:** Mom and Dad, they were really something special. They were married for over 50 years, and their love for each other was evident in everything they did. They were best friends, partners, and truly each other’s rock.
**Host:** Your obituary mentioned that Mary was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother.
**Marie:** Absolutely. She adored her grandchildren, Lisa and [mention other grandchildren’s names if applicable]. And her great-grandchildren, well, they were the apples of her eye. She always had a twinkle in her eye when she talked about them, and they brought her so much joy, especially in her later years.
**Host:** The obituary also speaks of Mary’s warmth and generosity. How did she express that in her daily life?
**Marie:** Mom was always there for everyone. She was the one who organized everything, from family gatherings to community events. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what.And her door was always open— whether you needed a cup of tea and a chat or a shoulder to cry on.
**Host:** It sounds like she was truly a pillar of the community. What will you miss most about your mother?
**Marie:**
Everything. Her laugh, her hugs, her advice. But mostly, I’ll miss her unwavering love and support. She was always there for me, through thick and thin.
