Local Residents of Brasapark Not Happy With Plans for a Sports Park Next to Their Door

Proposed Sports Fields Face Local opposition in Zuidoost

Tensions are brewing in Zuidoost as residents voice their concerns about a planned sports complex adjacent to Brasa Park. The proposed sports fields, slated to be built just 30 meters from homes, have sparked heated debate, with residents expressing concerns about noise, traffic, and light pollution.

Fear and Frustration Grow as Residents Seek Answers

– Local Residents

Local residents have taken matters into their own hands, placing barrier tape around the proposed area in an attempt to physically demonstrate its proximity to their homes. The proposed park would include a canteen, a hockey field, and a field for American football – a plan that many residents deem inappropriate for the location. They fear the loss of a peaceful green space and the potential for increased noise and traffic.

As residents grapple with the potential changes, they passionately voice their dissatisfaction with a lack of transparency from authorities. “We just want Clarity,”

says local resident Marcel Kemna. “We are actually kept in the dark.”

Only residents directly bordering the park have received official communication. Those living further away relied on word-of-mouth while fearing further encroachment.

Seeking Alternatives and Finding Common Ground

Residents are not simply opposed to anything new. They seek alternatives and urge a thorough exploration of other suitable locations.

“There’s room for a sports park at Nelson Mandela Park,” suggests local resident George, gesturing on a map during a heated discussion. “There’s plenty of space there.”

The current plan proposes cutting down a row of trees to accommodate the sports complex, steepening the community resistance even further. The prospect of towering 18-meter-high light poles illuminating sports games late into the night adds fuel to the concerns.
