Actress Mae Whitman, known for her roles in “Good Girls” and “Parenthood,” welcomed her first child, a son named Miles, in August 2024. While Whitman initially kept the father’s identity private, Lauren Graham has now revealed the father to be Carlos Valdes, Whitman’s “Up here” costar.
The Big Reveal on ‘Armchair Expert’
The revelation came during Lauren Graham’s appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast on March 10, 2025. Graham, a longtime friend of Whitman, shared the news in a casual yet definitive manner.
Shepard initiated the conversation by expressing, “I’m envious of your relationship with Mae. First of all, it’s the sweetest relationship. It really is special.”
Graham responded, “It really is.I still get a little thrill when she’ll text me back because it’s not a given. And she’s a mom now, and she’s working and she’s in Ireland.” The admiration between Graham and Whitman is clear, adding a layer of warmth to the reveal.
When Shepard expressed his eagerness to meet baby Miles “so bad,” Graham revealed that Carlos Valdes is the father.
Carlos Valdes: From ‘The Flash’ to Broadway Dad
Carlos Valdes is best known for his role as Cisco ramon/Vibe in the CW’s superhero series, “The Flash.” But Valdes is a seasoned theater actor with several Broadway credits.
Graham highlighted Valdes’s current role, saying, “I’m trying to think the last time [I saw her].They’re in New york now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug as he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”
She added, “He’s really great. and so they’re in New York for the next while and then she got this job in Ireland. So she’s in Ireland with the baby.” This paints a picture of a modern family navigating the demands of their careers in entertainment.
A Transcontinental Family Adventure
Whitman’s current job has taken her and baby Miles to Ireland, while Valdes continues his work on Broadway. This arrangement showcases the challenges and opportunities of balancing parenthood with demanding careers that require travel and relocation.
A ‘Parenthood’ Connection
Whitman named her son Miles, which has a sweet connection to the show she was on, Parenthood!

March 11, 2025
Following teh revelation on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, Archyde News secured an exclusive interview with Carlos Valdes, currently starring in Broadway’s Hadestown and recently revealed as the father of Mae Whitman’s son, Miles. We spoke with Carlos about juggling fatherhood, Broadway, and his blossoming family. Here’s what he had to say.
Life After “The Flash”: A Chat with Carlos Valdes
archyde News (AN): Carlos, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. The news about you and Mae and baby Miles has been making headlines. How are you adjusting to being a dad while performing on Broadway?
Carlos Valdes (CV): Thanks for having me. It’s definitely been… an adjustment! It’s a lovely chaos, realy. Juggling Hadestown and fatherhood requires a lot of scheduling and a truly unbelievable support system. I’m learning to embrace the sleepless nights and cherish every moment I get with Miles. He makes it all worth it.
Balancing Broadway Fame and Fatherhood
AN: Lauren Graham mentioned on ‘Armchair Expert’ that you’re “fantastic” in Hadestown. How has the Broadway community embraced you during this new chapter in your life?
CV: The Hadestown cast and crew have been incredibly supportive. They understand the demands of parenthood and have been so accommodating. There’s a real sense of family here, which has been invaluable. Plus, getting performance feedback from Mae after a show is always a highlight – she’s my toughest critic, but also my biggest fan.
Mae Whitman, Miles, and a Transcontinental Family
AN: Mae is currently in Ireland working on a project. How are you both managing a long-distance relationship while raising Miles?
CV: It’s definitely challenging, but we’re committed to making it work. We rely heavily on video calls and try to schedule visits as frequently enough as possible. Mae’s an amazing mother, and we both understand the importance of supporting each other’s careers. Though it’s tough being apart, we certainly know it’s temporary, and we’re doing everything we can to stay connected as a family. We even have family movie nights over Zoom!
The “Parenthood” Connection: Naming baby Miles
AN: Fans were delighted to discover the significance of Miles’ name, connecting it to Mae’s role in Parenthood. Was that a conscious decision?
CV: (Laughs) It was definitely a sweet coincidence! We loved the name independently, but once we realized the connection to parenthood, it felt even more special. It’s a subtle nod to a significant part of Mae’s life and career. It just felt right.
Looking Ahead: The Future for Carlos, mae, and Miles
AN: What are you most looking forward to as Miles grows, and what’s next for you professionally after Hadestown?
CV: I’m looking forward to seeing the world through his eyes, experiencing everything anew alongside him. I want to be the kind of dad who encourages his curiosity and supports his dreams, whatever they may be. After *Hadestown*, I’m eager to explore more theater opportunities, perhaps even some film or television projects. Mae and I are always looking for ways to collaborate creatively, so who knows what the future holds? Mainly though, I am focused on spending quality time with my brand new family!
AN: as someone who has experienced both television (The Flash) and Broadway success, what advice would you give other parents navigating demanding careers in the entertainment industry?
CV: Be kind to yourself. It’s okay if you don’t get it all right, all the time. Prioritize communication with your partner, build a strong support network, and remember to carve out time for yourselves, both individually and as a couple. And most importantly, cherish every moment you have with your child – they grow up so fast.
AN: Thank you, Carlos, for sharing your time and insights with us. We wish you, Mae, and Miles all the best!
CV: Thank you!
