Football 3.0 is making its grand entrance into France. Conceived in 2022 by Gerard Piqué, the Kings League, already a sensation in Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico, launched its French edition from April 6 to May 7, ahead of the second kings World Cup Clubs in France, scheduled for June.
The Kings League is not just another soccer league; itS an experiment designed for the digital age. Combining elements of conventional soccer with the fast-paced, engaging content that thrives on platforms like Twitch and YouTube, Piqué’s creation aims to capture the attention of younger audiences who might find traditional soccer stale.
We certainly know that France is a country that loves football. It is indeed almost a religion in your home. It is also a country which, in terms of streaming, has developed a strong ecosystem on Twitch, on youtube or on Tiktok, with a big community around guys like Amine, Kameto, Michou or Domingo

Gerard Piqué, a name synonymous with soccer excellence, transitioned into the business and media landscape after retiring two and a half years prior, boasting 102 caps for Spain and over 600 appearances for FC Barcelona. Before Kings League, Piqué ventured into reforming the Davis Cup via his Kosmos company. Now, he seeks to inject a fresh perspective into soccer, which he believes needs revitalization.

The most important thing is to be competitive. It is essential that fans feel it and, conversely, that they also have fun… Football is in competition with Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime, but also Tiktok, Instagram, Twitch and youyube. On all these platforms, there is content. We offer ours. It is indeed not traditional football.

The Kings League isn’t your typical soccer match.Played with seven players per side, the competition unfolds on a smaller field over two 20-minute halves.Designed for maximum excitement, the league incorporates unique rules:

- Temporary dismissals for yellow cards
- “Secret cards” for captains, enabling double-value goals or instant penalties
These aren’t the soccer rules your high school coach taught you, and that’s the point. The Kings League aims to be unpredictable and engaging, catering to the short attention spans of digital natives.
It is indeed true that the rules are sometimes a little crazy. This is another concept, short but exciting. For forty minutes, a lot can happen. On the ground as outside… And the public will be able to consume all of this for free. It works very well in all the countries where we have launched the Kings League (Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Italy). There is no reason to change.
