Janet Jackson on aging: “We all have to go through this”

US singer Janet Jackson (55) says she doesn’t have any major problems with getting older. “We all want to stay young forever, but it is inevitable. We all have to go through it,” she said in an interview with Allure magazine. She doesn’t want to over-fill, stretch, or freeze her face.

“I don’t know when my day will come, but eventually it will come and I can choose which way to go. I hope I age with grace. It will either be a little perked up or it will be graceful.”

She is glad that women in the music industry today are defining their own ideals of beauty, Jackson said. Today women feel “comfortable in their skin, with their size, their full figure, and I think that’s great, it’s different than before,” she said. “You always had to be thin and have a certain appearance. Now everything is accepted, everything is beautiful, and I absolutely love that.” Among her younger colleagues, she especially admires the rapper Lizzo (33) in this regard.
