He announced the opening of the Saudi and Iranian embassies within days
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced, at the end of his two-day visit to Beirut, an agreement to reopen the Iranian and Saudi embassies in Riyadh and Tehran in the next few days, and he believed that it was natural for the dialogue between the two countries to have positive effects at the level of the region and Lebanon. He also considered that the influential political forces in Lebanon have the competence to choose a president for the republic, stressing his country’s support for consensus among the Lebanese. He said that Tehran “welcomes any distinguished person who reaches the Lebanese presidency.”
Yesterday, the Iranian minister met the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and visited the town of Maroun al-Ras, near the Lebanese border with Israel. Where he stressed “support for the resistance in the face of the occupation.”
In his press conference yesterday evening, he said, “Iran has not and will not interfere in the Lebanese election of the President of the Republic. And when the Lebanese agree on any person, Iran will support that with all force, “adding that” the election of a president for the republic is an internal Lebanese affair, and the Lebanese must decide that for themselves.
Abdollahian considered that “the recent positive developments between Tehran and Riyadh open a door to positive climates at the level of the region that are moving towards cooperation and concerted efforts,” saying: “We do not evaluate the rapprochement of Iran and Saudi Arabia as being in the interest of the two countries only, but rather in the interest of the entire region.”
Abdallahian touched on the economic conditions that Lebanon is suffering from and said that he had talked regarding them during his meetings with Lebanese officials, especially the caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati.
