Instagram this week announced the arrival of some new features for its broadcast channels, giving the platform’s creators new ways to connect with their followers. Meta announced that creators can now enable “Replies” on their private broadcast channels, allowing participants to respond to other participants’ messages and comments, just like they do on Instagram posts.
In addition to news on their broadcast channels, Instagram creators can now also post urgent “prompts” on their channels, presented as questions like “what are you having for dinner today?” to encourage public engagement. Channel participants have 24 hours to respond with text or photos, and can like their favorite comments left by other users.
Instagram is also rolling out new metrics for creators to track, including the total number of interactions, story shares, and poll votes, along with “personalized, actionable guidance” that can help them grow and manage their audience.

What are the potential advantages and disadvantages of using prompts in Instagram broadcast channels?
**Host:** Welcome back to the show. Today we’re discussing Instagram’s latest updates to its broadcast channels, specifically the addition of replies and prompts. Joining us is social media expert, Sarah Jones. Sarah, thanks for being here.
**Sarah Jones:** Thanks for having me!
**Host:** So, Instagram is really doubling down on these broadcast channels. What do you think about the decision to allow replies?
**Sarah Jones:** It’s a smart move. Broadcast channels have been popular, but there was a limit to engagement since users could only react.
Allowing replies opens up a whole new world of interaction and fosters a stronger sense of community.
**Host:**Absolutely. And these “prompts” sound interesting. Can you tell us more about them?
**Sarah Jones:** It’s like a mini Q&A session within the channel. Creators can pose a question to their audience, encouraging them to respond with text or photos.
It’s a great way to spark conversation and get a feel for what your followers are thinking.
**Host:** Do you think these changes will encourage more creators to jump on the broadcast channel bandwagon?
**Sarah Jones:** I believe so. The ability to really interact with their audience in real-time is going to be very appealing to creators.
**Host:** Interesting. But what about potential downsides? Could these changes lead to more negativity or trolls in these channels?
**Sarah Jones:** That’s a valid concern. Moderation will be key. Creators need to be prepared to manage conversations and keep their channels a positive environment.
**Host:** Definitely something to consider. Well, thanks for sharing your insights, Sarah. This is definitely something we’ll be watching closely.
