Jembrana Stepping Up HIV/AIDS Prevention and Awareness Efforts
Stepping Up Screening and Community Education
In observance of World AIDS Day 2024, Jembrana Regency is making strides in AIDS prevention, working to raise awareness and support those affected by HIV/AIDS. The regency’s commemoration echoes the national theme “Equal Rights For All, Together We Can,” emphasizing that everyone plays a vital role in halting HIV transmission.
Strengthening Identification and Treatment Efforts
Dr. Made Dwipayana, Head of the Jembrana District Health Service, reported that in 2024, there were 649 registered cases of HIV/AIDS in the regency. Of these cases, 47 individuals had not yet received treatment, highlighting the urgency for immediate action.
The Jembrana Health Service has taken important steps to address this challenge. Primarily, they have intensified screening efforts, particularly among pregnant women, to ensure early identification of the virus and minimize any risk of transmission from mother to child.
Dr. Dwipayana also confirmed that the health service is implementing a multi-pronged approach to enhance HIV/AIDS management:
“Aside from strengthening screening efforts for pregnant women, we are engaging with individuals experiencing diseases commonly associated with HIV/AIDS, such as Candidiasis, Pneumocystis Pneumonia, and Tuberculosis, and requesting them to undergo HIV/AIDS testing,” he explained. This proactive approach aims to ensure early detection and treatment, preventing the further spread of the virus.
The health service is also bolstering accessibility to HIV/AIDS treatment by making CD4 cell testing available at each community health center, making it easier for patients to receive necessary care closer to where they live.
We believe these steps reflect our commitment to winning this battle together”.

Jembrana Regency has been making headlines lately for its proactive approach to HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Can you tell us what prompted this renewed focus?

Certainly. As you know, Bali as a whole has been grappling with a significant number of HIV/AIDS cases over the past few decades. [[1](https://www.balipost.com/news/2024/12/02/430046/Selama-37-Tahun,DitemukanPuluhan-Ribu…html)]We in Jembrana are committed to doing our part in turning the tide. World AIDS Day 2024 served as an important reminder of the ongoing crisis, and we wanted to demonstrate our dedication to protecting our community.
**Interviewer:**
What specific initiatives are being implemented in Jembrana?
**Guest:**
We have a two-pronged approach. Firstly, we’re significantly stepping up screening efforts to identify cases early. This allows for timely treatment and helps prevent further spread. Secondly, we’re investing heavily in community education programs. We’re working with local organizations and influencers to reach out to vulnerable populations and dispel stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
**Interviewer:**
The photo accompanying this article shows a socialization program targeting peer groups. Why is engaging young people a priority?
**Guest:**
Young people are particularly susceptible to misinformation and risky behaviors. By engaging them directly, we can empower them with accurate knowledge about HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention, and treatment options. We believe peer-to-peer education is incredibly effective in fostering open dialogues and encouraging responsible choices.
**Interviewer:**

HIV/AIDS is a preventable disease. By working together— through education, testing, and support—we can create a healthier and safer community for everyone.
