From DKD Idol To Politician: Gita KDI Ready To Take on West Java Race
Gita KDI, the beloved dangdut singer and former winner of KDI in 2005, is stepping onto a new stage: West Java politics.
Gita is running as deputy governor alongside Acep Adang Ruhiat in the 2024 regional elections.
Recent quick count results project the two in second place after Dedi Mulyadi and Erwanjadi.
Reacting to the initial results, Gita expressed readiness for any outcome. She acknowledges that winning or losing is part and parcel of any competition, having been part of the KDI talent search herself.
"Tea Gita usually competes, KDI used to be part of the match. So we have to prepare ourselves to win and lose," she said at the Brownis Trans TV studio.
Despite her competition background, Gita emphasizes that she approaches the events with humility, not driven by the pursuit of victory alone.
For Gita, feeling prepared for either outcome stems from experience. "Automatically we are ready, we win, thank God, even if we lose we have to be ready, so we don’t get nervous," she explained.
Her journey leads from her 2005 KDI victory, where she established herself in the world of dangdut and then moved into soap operas, starring in popular shows like "The Afterlife’s Girlfriend", "Rindu Rindu Asmara", "Si Entong," and "Fatimah."
Even as she navigates the world of politics, Gita hasn’t let go of her musical roots. In 2023 alone, she released around eight singles: "Oh Palestine," "Ibunda", "Indah When Meeting", "Hidden Love", "Eid al-Fitr Kariim", "Man Ahabba Syai’an", and "Bersemilah Kasih" featuring her younger brother.
Gita shares that being chosen as a deputy gubernatorial candidate was unexpected. She initially aimed to run for regent or deputy regent of Garut.
"Initially I was registering for the Garut regional elections, either as regent or deputy regent. So when I was asked to run as a candidate for deputy governor, I was quite surprised," she admitted.
对于 this
opportunity, Gita remains upbeat and open to fate’s trajectory.
"As cadres, what’s wrong with us contesting with others? Who knows what Teh Gita’s fortune will bring," she said with a smile.

Politics isn’t entirely unfamiliar terrritory for Gita.
She has been involved in politics for 20 years, joining Guo Patsy 2005, subsequently serving as a member of Indonesia’s DPR.
"Actually, Teh has been in politics for 20 years since 2005 after KDI joined the PKB board. Then in 2009 she became a member of the DPRI RI from PKB," she elaborated.
What skills or experiences from Gita KDI’s time in the entertainment industry do you think would be valuable assets in her political career?
