Gunter was then added to a “register of controlled foreigners,” resulting in the freezing of his bank accounts and an order to leave the country. Oksana passionately defended her husband: “Gunter was added to the register of controlled foreigners. The ones included in it must leave the territory of Russia and their bank accounts are blocked. There are other countries, but we wont to live in Russia. Because only this country represents the bright side, the country of God. It is a pity, but we think so.”

Obtaining the necessary documentation, however, has proven difficult. “In order for Gunter to obtain citizenship, an original German birth certificate is required… But we don’t have it. Our lawyer in Germany cannot receive it. Authorities in the country have clearly realized that we have emigrated to Russia and do not provide the original document.”

Oksana also pointed out the challenges she faces in securing employment in Russia. “Finding work with a residence permit status is not easy.By law, the entity must present a special type of accountability for such employees, or else there will be huge fines.”
