GEL Band Break-Up: Tour Cancellation & Accusations of Guitarist’s Horrific Behavior Unveiled

Gel Disbands Amidst Accusations of Theft and Abuse: Promising Tour with Spiritbox and Volbeat Canceled

the New Jersey hardcore band Gel, once poised for a breakthrough year, has abruptly announced it’s dissolution. The band’s disbandment comes after leveling serious accusations against former guitarist Anthony Webster. Gel released their EP Persona in August 2024, and had an amazing 2025 lined up. The band was scheduled to tour with both Spiritbox and Volbeat throughout the year but unfortunately, the band broke up and that tour isn’t happening anymore.

The Allegations Against Anthony Webster

In a detailed statement,Gel states that the actions of their former guitarist,Anthony Webster, led to the band’s demise. According to the band, Webster is accused of a series of damaging actions, including financial theft, privacy violations, and creating unsafe environments. The band states that Webster stole tens of thousands of dollars, posted nude photos of the band’s members on the Internet, spent band funds on OnlyFans, and put the band in “physically perilous situations numerous times.” The band’s full statement is below.

Hey everyone, friends and fans – Gel is no longer a band, and thus will not be playing any of our currently scheduled upcoming shows. The reason is pretty simple at its core; the former guitar player, Anthony Webster, has committed such heinous acts in trying to forward himself in his musical career that he’s done irreparable damage to the band in the process, and it’s affected us as human beings more then we can even attempt to explain, to the point of being fully unable to do the band anymore. Here are some examples of what he’s done:

the band further elaborated on the specific accusations:

  • Financial Misconduct: Webster allegedly stole “tens of thousands of dollars” from the band, using the funds for personal expenses such as rent, food, and OnlyFans subscriptions. Gel states that Webster left all of his financial misconduct on record for them to find.
  • Privacy Violation: webster is accused of posting nude images of band members on Reddit “for who knows what purpose.”
  • Endangering Behavior: Webster allegedly created “physically dangerous situations” for the band, including reckless driving and inciting violence against the band.

Gel’s statement paints a picture of a band struggling with internal conflict and abuse. “Now, I’m sure a lot of people are thinking, well why didn’t you just stop dealing with it? Why didn’t you just leave? If you’ve ever been in abusive relationship, emotionally and / or physically, you’ll probably understand this better. It’s like that, but with your life’s work and passion at the forefront as well. It’s not so easy to just give something up that you care so much about, especially with pressures from outside organizations, people, etc that are all counting on you in some way. We wish that this could have all been easier, and we wish that it didn’t have to end this way – we’re fighters though, and we saw it through to the very end, until it simply couldn’t go on anymore. And we’re proud of that.”

The band apologized to those affected by their disbandment. On that note, we’d like to send our most sincere and deepest apologies to anyone who this is affecting on a personal level and beyond. We know so many people where counting on us, including Spiritbox, Volbeat, our good friends in Anxious – we are so sorry that we have to end it this way and we truly hope for the best for all of you. Thank you so much to the friends we’ve made over the years, and thank you so much to our fans for always being there for us and showing us how much you care. Take care of each other, and love your friends.

Addressing Abuse and Misconduct

Archyde News: Gel’s statement detailed financial misconduct, privacy violations, and endangering behavior.how common are issues of this nature within the music industry, and particularly in the hardcore scene?

Anya Sharma: Unluckily, I believe they are far more common than people realize. The intensity of band dynamics, the pressure to succeed, and the often-informal structure of many bands can create environments ripe for exploitation and abuse. Financial mismanagement is a frequent issue, as is a lack of transparency. Privacy violations and unsafe situations are also real concerns.

There are resources available, and there are people who care about you and want to help.

Looking Forward: Creating a Safer Scene

Archyde News: What steps can the music industry, as a whole, take to help prevent these situations from occurring and create a safer environment for musicians?

Anya Sharma: Education and awareness are key. We need to have open and honest conversations about abuse, financial transparency, and ethical behavior. We need to encourage bands to have clear written agreements, even from the start. Furthermore, there should be more accessible and affordable legal resources for musicians. the scene must hold people accountable, and that includes supporting those who speak out against abuse.

Archyde News: The band’s story is a cautionary tale. What lessons should aspiring musicians learn?

Anya Sharma: First, understand your rights and responsibilities. Secondly build a strong support system outside of the band, prioritize your mental and emotional health. Don’t be afraid to speak up if something feels wrong.

Archyde News: Looking ahead, will Gel’s experience prompt a broader discussion about band dynamics and accountability,or will it fade from mainstream discussion after a few weeks?
