Bol’s experience as a volunteer offered a unique outlook.”I was a volunteer,” she recalled, “I was scanning the accreditation or the tickets of people. Also, when I was out there, I could go out and watch a few times. It was absolutely crazy, I still remember the 800m final with Thijmen kupers [Dutch athlete who placed 6th in men’s 800m final]. The crowd went absolutely crazy,and it was so good to watch.” this firsthand exposure fueled her ambition and provided a glimpse into the world she aspired to join.

Fast forward to March 6, 2025, and Bol is no longer watching from the sidelines.She is the star attraction, competing on home soil in Apeldoorn. fresh from an impressive 2024 Paris Olympics where she snagged a medal of each color, Bol decided to scale back her indoor season, focusing mainly on relays. The allure of a major championship in front of a home crowd, however, proved too tempting to resist.

Femke Bol: Absolutely! Being there, so close to the action, was surreal. Seeing Thijmen Kupers in the 800m final – the energy of the crowd was electric. That moment really fueled my ambition. It showed me what was possible with hard work and dedication.

Archyde: Fast forward to 2025, and you’re not just competing, but you’re winning gold on home soil in Apeldoorn! After yoru successful 2024 Paris Olympics, what made you prioritize the European Indoor Championships?
Femke Bol: The Paris Olympics were amazing, but competing in front of a home crowd is a unique experience. The energy they give you is incredible.I focused on relays primarily indoors, but couldn’t resist the chance to compete in a major championship here, in the Netherlands.

Archyde: You’ve become known for your incredible anchor legs, particularly in the 4x400m relay. What’s your mindset like when you receive the baton, knowing so much rests on your performance?
Femke Bol: It’s a mix of excitement and obligation. I trust my teammates and know they’ve given it thier all. My focus is on executing my race plan, staying relaxed, and pushing as hard as I can to bring it home for the team.The support from the crowd really helps!

Archyde: The Dutch mixed 4x400m relay team is a force to be reckoned with. What do you see as the key to the team’s success, and how do you feel about inspiring younger athletes like Madelief van Leur?
