Ajax Makes Five Changes for Crucial NEC Clash
Ajax head coach Francesco Farioli has made five changes to his starting lineup for the away match against NEC Nijmegen, looking for a positive response after Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad.
Remko Pasveer retains his place in goal. This season, the experienced 41-year-old has been the preferred choice between the sticks, with Diant Ramaj not in the match selection and Jay Gorter on the bench. Pasveer and his defense have given Ajax a strong foundation this season, keeping a clean sheet eleven times already.
The only change in the backline sees Jorrel Hato depending the left flank. Devyne Rensch remains on the right, with Josip Sutalo and Ahmetcan Kaplan at the heart of defense. Kaplan replaces Youri Baas, who drops to the bench.
The midfield sees three changes. Branco van den Boomen, Davy Klaassen, and Kenneth Taylor return to the starting eleven, replacing Jordan Henderson, Steven Berghuis, and Kian Fitz-Jim. Klaassen and Taylor did not feature against Real Sociedad, ensuring they will offer fresh legs against NEC. Henderson starts on the bench. The Englishman is replaced by van den Boomen, who has played in six previous games this season.
Up front, Wout Weghorst leads the line, given the opportunity to impress after Brian Brobbey was forced off early in the game against Real Sociedad. Weghorst will be flanked by Steven Berghuis on the right and Kristian Hlynsson on the left.
Ajax Lineup
Rensch, Sutalo, Kaplan, Hato; Van den Boomen, Taylor, Klaassen; Berghuis, Weghorst, Hlynsson.
Substitutions
Gorter, Reverson, Gaaei, Wijndal, Henderson, Akpom, Baas, Traoré, Fitz-Jim, Rasmussen, Mokio, Janse.
