Instead of picking a major trophy win as his highlight, Quaresma opted for a less expected choice: the showdown against FC Porto last season. Stepping into the starting lineup because of an injury to Coates, the defender proved his mettle and cemented his place in the squad.
“At that FC Porto I asserted myself and proved that I was capable of being here. The most important thing? It’s the mentality because if you don’t have your head in the right place to play every three days you won’t be able to be in this sport,” he said, confessing, shortly afterward, some of the most delicate moments with the lion on his chest.
“«The important thing is the passion for football, that means we can never give up. I had an injury that I thought about giving up at the age of 13 and then at the age of 15 but then there was the passion to play and meet new people. The dream of reaching the main team was fueling this passion,” he added.
“Think it’s important to have the beginners squad, having your feet firmly planted on the ground and your head in the game,” the defender explained.

»My best friend is probably Inácio because we did all our training together,” Quaresma said. “but I get along well with Bragança, Pote and Esgaio despite being older. Those are the ones I’m constantly playing with, but we all get along well.”
