“Conclave” went into the ceremony with a leading twelve nominations,showcasing its dominance in the awards race. The film, starring Ralph Fiennes, delves into the intense world of a papal conclave, where cardinals navigate political intrigue and spiritual turmoil as they elect a new pope. Rich peppiatt Makes a Splash with Outstanding Debut award
Northern Irish filmmaker Rich Peppiatt, known for his work with the rap trio Kneecap, captured the hearts of the Academy and took home the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. Peppiatt’s Irish-language film,which received six nominations,highlights the power of authentic storytelling and cultural representation.
Peppiatt, while accepting the award, remarked, “it’s funny how life works.” he went on to share how he met his wife and relocated to Belfast, where he encountered Kneecap. The 77th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) took place on Sunday, showcasing the best of British and international cinema. From powerful dramas to captivating animation, the night celebrated a diverse range of films and talent.

There was a surprise turn of events in the Best Actress category when Anora’s Mikey Madison won, defeating front-runner Demi Moore for “The Substance” and critically acclaimed actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste for “Hard Truths.” Madison, who was also nominated for the Rising Star Award, dedicated her win to the “sex worker community,” saying, “I see you, you deserve respect and human decency.I will always be a friend and an ally and I implore others to do the same.”

Nick Park: I’ve always loved the idea of exploring darker themes with a touch of humour.Gromit,despite his silent nature,embodies this beautifully. With this film, I wanted to delve into the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and facing one’s fears, all wrapped in a gloriously wacky adventure.
Archyde: Stop-motion animation demands immense dedication. How does that unique filmmaking process shape your storytelling?
Nick Park: Stop-motion allows for incredible detail and texture, but it’s undeniably demanding. Each frame is meticulously crafted, forcing you to plan meticulously and cherish every movement. That careful consideration bleeds into the storytelling, ensuring each moment feels earned and impactful.
