The journey to the screen began in 2017 with a television adaptation of Confess, a seven-episode series.However,it was the theatrical release of It Ends with Us in August 2024 that truly marked hoover’s arrival in Hollywood. And the adaptations don’t stop ther. Verity, Regretting You, and Reminders of him have all secured adaptation deals, promising to bring Hoover’s storytelling to an even wider audience.
“I think it’s all of the emotions,” hoover said, reflecting on her books’ appeal.”I’m able to separate it in the sense that I see the book and the film as two fully separate things. But at the same time, I think they did such a good job condensing this book into a film that I’m very happy with this adaptation.”

The power of “BookTok” played a important role in the resurgence of It Ends with Us,making it the top-selling print book of 2022 and securing its place on the New York Times Best Seller List for over 90 weeks,according to deadline. The adaptation rights were initially optioned in 2019 by Justin Baldoni, who also directed the film, and Wayfarer Studios.

Sarah Chen: Capturing the emotional depth of the book was key. We wanted to stay true to the source material while ensuring the film stood on its own as a cinematic experience. Casting was crucial. The chemistry between the actors and representing the emotional journey authentically were primary concerns.
Archyde News Editor: “BookTok” played a important role in It Ends with Us‘ recent success. How has the rise of social media and online communities influenced the film adaptation process?
Sarah Chen: Social media has been instrumental in keeping fans engaged and building excitement. We actively listened to the fans’ feedback. It’s a dialog that helps shape marketing, and it lets us know what resonantes with readers.
Archyde News Editor: Confess has already seen a TV adaptation. Verity,Regretting You,and Reminders of Him are now in growth. How do you approach adapting these different novels, each with its unique narrative and tone?
Sarah Chen: Each adaptation requires a unique approach. But the focus is always on respecting the essence of the story while adapting it to the medium.We identify the core themes and work to translate them visually and thematically so audiences can experience the feeling and message of the novel.
