Why did they close the Mexico-Puebla highway?
The ejidatarios demand payment for their expropriated lands for the construction of the now blocked road and the reservation of the Iztaccihuatl–Popocatepetl National Park.
The Mexico-Puebla highway was inaugurated on May 5, 1962, in commemoration of the Battle of Puebla.
“This road was built in 1950 and it’s been 66 years, several six-year terms, PAN, PRI and Morena cut from the same cloth because they don’t provide a solution,” accused an ejidatario yesterday.
The conflict began in 1995 when the federal government, through the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, made an agreement with the ejidal commissioner of Santa Rita Tlahuapan.
The agreement was for an advance payment for the occupation of surface for an amount, then, of 1 million 99 thousand 263 pesos.
