Bill Maher Says ‘I May Quit’ HBO’s ‘Real Time’ Because ‘I Don’t Want to Do’ More Donald Trump Coverage

Is Bill Maher Ready to Quit "Real Time" if Trump Wins in 2024?

Comedy legend Bill Maher recently quipped that he might quit his HBO show, "Real Time," if Donald Trump returns to the White House in 2024. This isn’t the first time he’s expressed exhaustion with a potential Trump presidency, and this time, he’s lined up his reasoning.

Trump Fatigue Sets In

During the latest episode of his podcast “Club Random” released Sunday, Maher discussed Trump’s possible return with actor and activist Jane Fonda.

Fonda interrupted Maher’s musings, “Well then how come he’s so hostile to Jimmy Kimmel and not to you?”

Maher laughed and riposted, "He’s very hostile to me. He tweets about me every week. Every week he accidentally watches my show and goes, ‘Low ratings loser!’ I’m bored with it. The show is the politics. There is no other thing. And he’s going to dominate the news like he always does.”

Maher might have a point, though vaulting back into a familiar groove.

A Slew of Diss Top a Frustrating Interlude

Back in September, former President Trump lashed out at Maher in a post on Truth Social. He wrote, “I seldom watch Low Rated Bill Maher but, when I do, I marvel at the fake laughter on the Show. It sounds like a bad ‘Laugh Machine,’ it’s so obnoxious and disgusting, just like him, always laughing no matter what is said.

Maher is firmly entrenched at HBO. Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO renewed “Real Time” for two more seasons back in March 2023, keeping him on board through 2026. Speaking about the renewal at the time, a nonchalant Maher said, “Two more years in the dream job of a lifetime, on the network so many dream of being on — I think that’s what we call a no-brainer,”

Ultimately, maybe we Nile. Se here.

“Real Time” Lead

Besides “Real Time” which he’s helmed since 2003. Maher has also produced 12 comedy specials for the network.

Only time will tell if he actually follows through on his word.

Should Bill Maher consciously‍ leave “Real ⁢Time”⁢ if Donald Trump wins the election in 2024 due to Trump⁤ fatigue?

## Is Bill Maher Ready to Quit ‍”Real Time” if Trump Wins in⁤ 2024?

**Host:** ⁤Welcome back to the show. Joining us today is media analyst, Emily Carter, to discuss⁣ the ⁣recent comments ‍from Bill⁤ Maher about potentially leaving “Real Time” if Donald Trump wins the ⁤2024 election. Emily, thanks for being here.

**Emily ⁣Carter:** Thanks for having me. This⁣ is ⁤definitely a hot topic right ‌now.

**Host:** Absolutely. Bill ⁣Maher has been very ⁤vocal about his “Trump⁢ fatigue” and even hinted at ‌leaving ‍his show should Trump secure another ⁤term. What do ⁢you make of ‍this?

**Emily Carter:** ⁢Well,‌ it’s ‌understandable. Maher has built a career on ‌political satire, and a second Trump presidency ⁤would undoubtedly provide ample material. However,⁣ the sheer exhaustion ⁣he expresses⁢ suggests a⁤ deeper concern.

**Host:** Do you think‌ he’s serious about quitting?

**Emily Carter:** It’s hard‌ to say for sure. It could be a strategic move to generate⁣ buzz and‌ maintain his relevance. However, given his past comments about Trump and the ⁣intensity of his criticism, I wouldn’t completely⁢ rule out the possibility.⁤ [1](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/bill-maher-may-quit-hbo-real-time-trump-fatigue-1236076719/)

**Host:** What would be the implications if he did leave ‍”Real Time”?

**Emily Carter:** It would be a significant loss for late-night political commentary.‍ “Real Time” has been a platform⁢ for insightful and often provocative discussions on current events. Maher’s departure⁢ would create a void that others would‌ struggle to fill.

**Host:** What about the future of “Real Time” itself? Could it ⁤survive without Bill Maher?

**Emily Carter:** ‍It’s difficult to imagine the show continuing in its current form without its namesake. ⁣ ⁤”Real Time” is⁢ deeply intertwined with Maher’s personality and brand of humor. It’s ‌possible that HBO could try to find ‍a new⁤ host,⁤ but replicating the show’s success would be a massive challenge.
