Interview with Bettina Holwerda

Archyde: what made you decide to celebrate your birthday by going on this trip with Lux?

Bettina: Well, as a yoga instructor, I’ve always believed in the power of new experiences to enrich our lives. I wanted to share that belief with Lux and create lasting memories together. Plus, I’ve always been fascinated by iceland’s landscapes, and thought it would be an amazing adventure for both of us.

archyde: How did Lux feel about the idea initially? It seems he came around quite nicely.

Bettina: (laughs) He did! Initially, he wasn’t entirely convinced, but I think seeing my enthusiasm for the trip sparked some of his own. And once we started exploring, he was wholly sold. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They can feel when something is meaningful and exciting.

Archyde: One of the highlights of your trip was the quest for a warm river. How did that come about?

Bettina: Oh, that was quite the adventure! We’d heard about a river with geothermal waters, and we just had to find it. We ended up adventuring off the beaten path a bit, but the joy of discovering that warm river together was absolutely priceless.

Archyde: Upon returning, you received a sweet surprise from your family. Can you tell us more about that?

Bettina: Yes, it was such a touching moment. My daughters posy and Molly, along with their dad, had left me a stunning note and some gifts to congratulate me on my birthday. it was a fantastic way to cap off an amazing trip.

Archyde: Your journey seems to have strengthened your bond with Lux. Would you encourage other parents to travel with their teenage children?

Bettina: Absolutely! Traveling together creates shared experiences that you’ll both remember for a lifetime. It also fosters independence, resilience, and a broader worldview. So, yes, I’d urge parents to step outside their comfort zones and explore the world with their kids.

Archyde: Lastly, what advice would you give to those planning their own Iceland adventure?

Bettina: Be prepared for the weather, as it can be unpredictable. Pack layers, good walking shoes, and a sense of adventure. and when in doubt, ask locals for recommendations – they often know the best spots. Oh, and don’t forget to seek out that warm river!
