A serious traffic accident occurred in Wasserauen on Sunday followingnoon. A train and a car crashed into each other on a level crossing. Three passengers in the car were injured.

In Wasserauen AI, a car crashed into an Appenzeller Bahnen train around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday followingnoon. The three occupants of the passenger car (55, 39, 21) were moderately to severely injured and were rescued by two Rega helicopters, according to the Appenzell Innerrhoden cantonal police.
The train drove from Wasserauen in the direction of Appenzell. At the same time, the 55-year-old driver wanted to pass a level crossing secured with a St. Andrew’s Cross. Why is not known. There was a violent collision between the two vehicles.
The police said there were only a few passengers on the Appenzeller Bahnen train. Like the train driver, they were unharmed. The passenger car was a total loss and the damage to the Appenzeller Bahn is likely to amount to several hundred thousand francs. Train operations will remain suspended until further notice. (dzc/vof)
