The Power of Collaboration: "Alone We Dream, Together We Realize"
Ah, the Italians, always with a flair for the dramatic. I mean, who needs a simple slogan when you can have a motto that sounds like a Bond villain’s catchphrase? "Alone we dream, together we come true" – it’s like they’re going to start a revolution, or at the very least, a rather impressive school project.
But in all seriousness, the Insieme si puo Sarno association is doing some fantastic work in the provinces of Salerno, Naples, and Avellino. With 34 free projects aimed at children and young people with autism and other disabilities, they’re making a real difference in their community. And their latest endeavor, "La stanza magic" (or "The Magic Room" for those who don’t speak Italian – which, let’s be honest, is most of us), is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when people come together for a common goal.
So, what is this Magic Room, you ask? Well, it’s a multisensory room, which sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, but is actually just a clever way of helping kids with special needs. With the help of Dr. Emiliana Lauria, who’s an expert in the Snoezelen method (try saying that three times fast, I dare you), the room uses lights, sounds, visual projections, games, and tactile materials to help the kids work on all sorts of important stuff like concentration, emotions, and socialization. It’s like a giant, Italian, sensory-deprivation tank, but in a good way.
Now, I know what you’re thinking – how do they fund all this? Well, the association has a clever little scheme where they get local businesses, traders, and freelancers to "adopt" a child with a disability. It’s like a sponsorship, but without the tedious paperwork and overpriced branded merchandise. And it’s all thanks to their social campaign, "Sporcatevi le mani" – which roughly translates to "Get your hands dirty," but in a more Italian, dramatic way, of course.
It’s heartwarming to see people coming together like this. I mean, we’re always talking about the importance of community and collaboration, but this association is actually putting it into practice. And it’s not just about throwing money at a problem; it’s about creating a real, tangible impact on people’s lives.
So, to the Insieme si puo Sarno association, I say: bravo! Keep doing what you’re doing, and maybe one day we’ll all be able to say, "Alone we dream, together we realize" – without sounding like complete idiots.
Empowering young minds, the Insieme si puo Sarno association has been a beacon of hope for children and young people with autism and other disabilities in the provinces of Salerno, Naples, and Avellino since its inception in 2019. With a strong presence in 34 locations, the association has been working tirelessly to provide free projects that cater to the unique needs of its beneficiaries.
In a groundbreaking collaboration with the AD ASTRA rehabilitation center and the State IC “Giovanni XXIII – G. Parini” of Baiano – Sperone, the association has launched the innovative “La stanza magic” project. Under the expert supervision of Dr. Emiliana Lauria, a specialist in the Snoezelen method, this initiative utilizes a state-of-the-art multisensory room to provide a holistic learning experience for children with special needs.
A total of twelve local children will have the opportunity to participate in this project, initially on an individual basis and subsequently in groups, accompanied by trained educators who have undergone specialized training. Within the multisensory room, children will engage in a wide range of activities, including the manipulation of lights, sounds, visual projections, games, and tactile materials, all carefully designed to enhance their concentration, emotional intelligence, communication skills, learning abilities, and socialization.
The Insieme si Pu Sarno association has been actively involved in the Baianese district for two years, working in partnership with the Ad Astra center to provide comprehensive support to children with disabilities. The association is also linked to the social enterprise “I bambini delle faite”, founded by Franco and Andrea Antonello, which plays a vital role in promoting social inclusion and awareness. Through its social campaign “Sporcatevi le mani”, the association has been able to engage local companies, traders, freelancers, and private citizens in its mission, encouraging them to “adopt locally” a child with a disability and provide ongoing support. The association extends its heartfelt gratitude to these contributors, whose unwavering support has enabled the realization of projects like “The Magic Room” and many others, exemplifying the power of collective action and the association’s motto: “Alone we dream, together we realize”.
