NAPLES.- The city of Naples in Italia is on alert after the death of another young man due to a gunshot.
Last Saturday, an 18-year-old young man lost his life after being hit by a bullet from a gun he was playing with in the streets of the Naples Historic Center.
A day later, the victim’s cousin was arrested after confessing that he accidentally fired the gun they were playing with.
This case joins other similar ones in the same Italian city in recent weeks.
There are three deaths from firearms in Naples
From last October 27 to Saturday, November 9, there were five gun attacks in which young people, some teenagers, were involved.
The cases range from accidental incidents to intentional attacks.
On October 27, a 20-year-old young man was shot in the back of the head while driving his vehicle; the victim survived.
A case that ended in tragedy occurred last November 2 in the San Sebastiano del Vesuvius neighborhood in Naples when a 17-year-old teenager murdered another, two years older than him.
The attacker was released from prison last May and shot the 19-year-old after a fight between two groups, allegedly because he dirty his shoes from an accidental stomp.
A week earlier, two teenagers, ages 14 and 17, shot and killed another 15-year-old boy in the city center.
Apology for crime comes to TikTok
These cases have raised alarms about violence in the streets, marginalization and the activity of criminal groups such as the Camorrawhich contribute to the ease with which adolescents are obtaining firearms.
Francesco Borrelli, deputy of Green-Left Alliance coalition who has been protected by escort since 2022, reported that more and more young people identify with crime, and even make altars or other tributes to criminals who have died.
The legislator recalled the case of Luigi Caiafaa 17-year-old minor from the historic center of Naples who died at the hands of the police while committing an attempted robbery in 2020.
After his death, a mural and an altar appeared in his honor.
“Beyond the mural, there was a small altar of devotion, as if it were the Virgin Mary, with the boy’s photo and his things, like a clock,” says Borrelli.
Although the police covered the mural with the young man’s face, there is a graffiti in his memory: “Luigi Cafaia lives”said the Italian.
The deputy regretted that these expressions of admiration for members of crime even reach social networks such as TikTok.
Los altars of the Camorra “Almost all of them were dejected years ago, but the apology moved to social networks, especially TikTok,” Borrelli explained.

What are the root causes of the rise in gun violence among young people in Naples, according to Dr. Rossi?
## Interview with Dr. Maria Rossi on Recent Gun Violence in Naples
**Host:**
Dr. Rossi, thank you for joining us today. The city of Naples is reeling after a string of shocking incidents involving gun violence, particularly among young people. Can you help us understand the scope of this problem?
**Dr. Rossi:**
Absolutely. The recent events are truly alarming. In just a few short weeks, we’ve seen three tragic deaths from firearms, including an 18-year-old who was accidentally shot by his cousin and a 15-year-old who was killed in a shooting involving two teenagers. This, on top of other shootings and violent incidents, paints a grim picture. While some cases appear accidental, others point to intentional acts of violence driven by gang activity or petty conflicts.
**Host:**
The article mentions a case where a teenager was murdered over a fight allegedly about dirty shoes. This seems particularly disturbing.
**Dr. Rossi:**
Yes, this case is indicative of a concerning trend – the normalization of violence among certain groups of young people. Easy access to firearms, coupled with social factors like poverty and lack of opportunity, creates a volatile mix. We need to address the root causes of this violence, not just treat the symptoms.
**Host:**
What can be done to address this crisis?
**Dr. Rossi:**
This requires a multi-faceted approach. We need stricter gun control measures, along with social programs that address the underlying issues driving this violence, such as providing access to education, job training, and mental health services. Law enforcement also needs to be more proactive in tackling gang activity and shutting down illegal firearm trafficking.
**Host:**
The article also mentions the growing trend of ”apology for crime” videos on TikTok. What role does social media play in this situation?
**Dr. Rossi:**
Social media can be both a blessing and a curse. While it can raise awareness about these issues and connect people seeking help, it can also be a platform for glorifying violence and normalizing criminal behavior. We need to find ways to use social media responsibly and counter these harmful messages.
**Host:**
For those who are concerned about this situation and want to help, what can they do?
**Dr. Rossi:**
Support organizations that are working to prevent gun violence and help at-risk youth. Advocate for stricter gun control measures and social programs. And most importantly, stay informed and engaged in these vital conversations. We all have a role to play in creating a safer community.
