How would you describe your mother and stepfather to those who didn’t know them?

My mom was the heart of our family. She was such a warm, caring person. She had this infectious laugh that could light up a room. My stepfather, Andrew, though he wasn’t my biological father, he was like a father to me.He was incredibly courageous.He dedicated his life to fighting crime, dismantling organized crime rings, and he was very proud of that work.

What are you finding the most difficult part of this whole ordeal?

There isn’t one single thing. The pain, the numbness, the sense of disbelief…it’s all overwhelming.What makes it even harder is understanding that someone would take their lives like this. It’s senseless, cruel. But I have to stay strong for myself and for my family. Thay wouldn’t want me to crumble.

Do you have any inkling of why this happened? Any thoughts about who might be responsible?

That’s what’s so terrifying. My stepfather had been retired for a while, but he worked in law enforcement for so long, specifically targeting organized crime.It makes you wonder if there was a vendetta, if someone from his past was seeking revenge.
