Oleksandra, thank you for joining us today. Let’s start at the beginning. What inspired you to pursue a degree in both law and food technologies?
Oleksandra Nikolayenko (ON): Thank you for having me.I’ve always been drawn to understanding how things work, whether it’s the intricacies of the law or the science behind food production. growing up, I was fascinated by both my parents’ professions – my father was a lawyer, and my mother was a chef. Their passions rubbed off on me, and I decided to explore these fields academically. I believe my diverse educational background has given me a unique perspective on the world.
that’s fascinating. How did your journey lead you to compete in Miss Ukraine Universe, and what was that experience like?
ON: (Smiles) It was a turning point in my life. I was encouraged by friends and family to participate, and I saw it as an opportunity to represent my values and my country. The competition was challenging but rewarding. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, teaching me the importance of confidence, poise, and public speaking. But more importantly, it taught me the power of community – the bond I formed with the other contestants was truly special.
Winning the title must have opened many doors. What motivated you to focus on a legal career instead of pursuing a modeling or acting path?
ON: While I enjoyed the experience, I realized that my passion lay elsewhere. I’d always been captivated by the law – its logic, its ability to protect and serve justice. So, after winning the pageant, I threw myself into my legal studies with renewed vigor. I Interned at a prominent law firm, and I knew I’d found my calling. I’ve never regretted my decision. Law is complex, challenging, and ever-evolving, just like life.
Balancing a demanding legal career with motherhood must be no easy task. What’s your secret?
ON: (Laughs) There’s no one-size-fits-all secret, unfortunately. It’s all about finding what works for you and your family. For me, it’s about prioritizing, setting boundaries, and accepting help when I need it. My husband,Richard, has been an unbelievable support, and we make sure to carve out quality time for our children despite our busy schedules. It’s not perfect, but it’s our family’s version of balance.
Speaking of balance, how do you navigate the delicate matter of discussing sensitive political topics, such as the ongoing war in Ukraine, while maintaining your privacy?
ON: I’ve always believed that my personal views on politics should not overshadow my professional life or the causes I champion. I choose my words carefully, and I respect the right of others to have differing opinions. It’s important to engage in meaningful dialog, but it’s equally important to know when to step back and focus on what truly matters – my family,my community, and my work.
That brings us to 2024 and the meaningful shift in American politics. As an observer, what’s your take on Donald Trump’s victory?
ON: (Pauses thoughtfully) It’s a reminder that democracy is dynamic. every election is a reflection of the people’s will, and it’s our duty to respect and uphold that. I believe in the power of dialogue, of finding common ground, and of working together towards a brighter future.Whether it’s in Ukraine, the United States, or any other country, let’s focus on unity and progress.
Thank you, Oleksandra, for sharing your insights and experiences. It’s been an absolute pleasure speaking with you.
