South High holds mental health retreat for freshman class

Putting Mental Health Front and Center: South High Freshmen Prioritize Well-being

On December 10, the freshman class at South High embarked on a journey of self-discovery and support, participating in a dedicated mental health retreat facilitated by the 4-6-3 Foundation.

The retreat served as a platform to shed light on the vital importance of mental well-being, providing students with valuable tools and resources to navigate the challenges of adolescence.

Raising Awareness, Fostering Open Dialogue

“Just bringing awareness again, talking about it, going to people is critical,”

explained Greta Evanson, Assistant Principal at South High. The school administration and staff are committed to integrating mental health into the fabric of the school community, emphasizing its significance as a resource readily available to all students.

Building Stronger Connections Through Support

Molly Lundon, the B.A.R.R. coordinator at South High, highlighted the profound impact of prioritizing mental health within the school environment: “It helps produce better relationships from student to student, student to staff, and then staff to staff.”

Lundon’s observations underscore the ripple effect of creating a culture of support and understanding.

The 4-6-3 Foundation, beyond the retreat, actively engages with youth through a variety of channels, including sporting events and other youth organizations. By meeting young people where they are, the foundation aims to connect them with vital suicide prevention resources.
