Now that winter is around the corner, it’s time to talk about the age-old problem drivers face with car windows, which fog up particularly easily in humid conditions.
Why do car windows fog up?
Glass surfaces fog up in the coldest time of the year due to water vapor and the difference between the outside and inside temperature in the car, which increases with the use of the radiator or air conditioning.
The phenomenon of condensation causes water particles in the warm air to form droplets upon contact with the cold surface of the glass.
The drastic trick to keep the windows from fogging up
The following six tips will do well to become your “Bible” for cleaning foggy windshields:
- Clean the inside of your car’s glass surfaces very well
- Make sure the vehicle’s ventilation and engine air filter are working efficiently
- Turn on the car’s air conditioning to the strongest setting and adjust the air flow upwards, i.e. towards the windscreen
- In the exceptional case that there is no air conditioning, open the window slightly to freshen the air
- Rub the inside of the glasses with rubbing alcohol, which will settle and prevent fogging
- Finally, you can place a sock filled with quartz sand in a corner of the living room, which absorbs excess moisture and keeps the inside dry
