Huawei and key TECH4ALL partners presented at the Huawei Connect Paris 2024 the growing importance of Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative in Europe’s digital and green transformation.

The TECH4ALL Forum on the first day of Huawei Connect covered various new and existing TECH4ALL projects and the value they create in promoting sustainable development for the benefit of people and the planet.

“We believe that technology and partnerships are at the heart of digital and green transformation and play a central role in building an inclusive and sustainable digital world,” said Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing at Huawei. “That is the thinking behind our TECH4ALL initiative, which we launched five years ago in 2019 and which is now stronger than ever.”

At the event, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) introduced the global partnership Tech4Nature, which Huawei and the IUCN co-launched in 2020 to increase conservation success through technological innovation. In line with Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative and the IUCN Green List, Tech4Nature has supported 11 flagship projects in eight countries with tailored solutions to conservation challenges.

“Tech4Nature is a global partnership between the conservation sector led by IUCN and the technology sector led by Huawei. This partnership is critical because technology must be part of the solution to our planet’s biodiversity and climate crisis. Tech4Nature is about harnessing the innovation and energy of the technology sector to help solve these problems,” said James Hardcastle, Director of Global Protected Areas at IUCN.

Tech4Nature’s Phase II began in 2024 with new projects in five countries, including a biodiversity monitoring and protection project in Spain’s Sierra Nevada that launched last week.

Greek start-up PROBOTEK presented the new forest fire prevention and control system developed as part of the TECH4ALL initiative. In collaboration with the Greek government, project partners PROBOTEK, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Huawei selected Skiathos as a pilot site for Phase II of the solution in October 2024. The solution includes sensors, 5G, AI and drones. It aims to curb the potential devastation of wildfires by enabling emergency response within the first “golden 15 minutes” of discovery, sending evacuation routes to residents’ phones and planning routes for fire engines and ambulances.

In the field of education, UNESCO has partnered with Huawei TECH4ALL for the Open School Initiative and the UNESCO Campus. At the TECH4ALL Forum, UNESCO presented its strategies for promoting educational equity and quality at a global level. This also includes cooperation with Huawei Strengthening STEM education and to equip the next generations with MINT skills in Europe.

“The UNESCO STEM Strategy aims to strengthen the efforts of UNESCO Member States to promote STEM education by building a robust ecosystem that supports the development of critical thinking, problem-solving skills and innovation. The focus is on a number of measures. “The aim is to increase young people’s engagement in STEM subjects, improve teacher capacity and promote gender equality and inclusion,” said Magdalena Landry, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Culture in Europe.

TECH4ALL partners Close the Gap and Konexio examined how the DigiTruck projects promote digital inclusion by teaching digital skills to priority populations in France, including the elderly and unemployed youth. To date, the project has reached 6,000 people in 31 cities. At the DigiTALL event in the evening, the two partners were recognized for their contribution to digital inclusion and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of its TECH4ALL initiative, Huawei has worked with a range of partners including governments, non-governmental organizations, IGOs, transportation companies, environmental organizations, universities and technology companies. Given the central role technology plays in promoting inclusion and sustainability, Huawei expects to develop more projects and partnerships in Europe in the future.

How does Huawei’s collaboration with organizations like UNESCO and IUCN enhance the effectiveness ⁣of⁣ the TECH4ALL initiative in promoting sustainability and educational equity?

**Interview with Jeffrey Zhou, President⁣ of ICT Marketing at Huawei**

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Jeffrey. At Huawei Connect⁣ Paris 2024, you emphasized the significance of⁤ the TECH4ALL initiative in Europe’s digital and green ⁤transformation. Can⁣ you elaborate ⁣on what this initiative entails and its impact?

**Jeffrey Zhou:** Absolutely, thank⁢ you for having me.⁣ The TECH4ALL initiative, which we launched in 2019, is fundamentally about leveraging technology and partnerships to drive sustainable development. Our goal is to ‌create an inclusive digital⁣ world that benefits everyone. We focus on projects that not only enhance technological access but also address urgent global challenges, particularly in⁣ education and environmental conservation.

**Interviewer:** You mentioned partnerships during your presentation. Could you share how collaborations, such as with the International‌ Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), are vital to the TECH4ALL initiative?

**Jeffrey Zhou:** Yes, partnerships are crucial. For instance, our collaboration with IUCN ⁤through the Tech4Nature initiative ⁣showcases how technological ⁣innovation can enhance conservation efforts.‍ By working together, we aim⁣ to tackle biodiversity ⁣loss and climate change. Tech4Nature has launched several flagship projects ⁣across multiple countries to address these pressing environmental issues, and⁤ we’re excited to⁤ see‌ its Phase II ⁢rolling out with new⁣ initiatives.

**Interviewer:** Recently, the Greek start-up PROBOTEK introduced a fire prevention system as part of TECH4ALL. Can you explain how this technology will function and ⁣its expected benefits?

**Jeffrey ⁤Zhou:** The fire ⁢prevention system developed by PROBOTEK is ⁤a fantastic example of⁣ applying advanced technologies ⁤for immediate impact. Using a combination of sensors, 5G connectivity, AI, and drones,‍ this system can detect ‍wildfires quickly and enable emergency responders‌ to take action⁢ within the critical‍ first fifteen minutes. It’s about not only preventing destruction⁣ but ⁢also protecting lives by directing evacuation routes and mobilizing resources ‍effectively.

**Interviewer:** Education ⁢is another major component of the TECH4ALL initiative. Could you highlight Huawei’s collaboration with UNESCO regarding this?

**Jeffrey Zhou:** Certainly! Our partnership with UNESCO is focused on promoting educational equity and enhancing STEM education. Through initiatives like the‌ Open School Initiative,‌ we aim to‌ equip ⁣future generations with essential⁣ skills and knowledge sets by developing robust educational ecosystems.
