After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.
What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?
Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.
Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.
“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”
“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”
*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

### Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou: Creator of “Agoramana”
### Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou: Creator of “Agoramana”
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Aphrodite. “Agoramana” has had a remarkable reception in Athens and throughout Greece. What inspired you to bring this show specifically to Patras?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! Bringing “Agoramana” to Patras feels like a natural extension of our journey. We’ve witnessed such heartfelt responses in other cities, and I believe the themes we explore resonate deeply across diverse communities. Patras, with its vibrant cultural scene, is the perfect place for this show.
**Interviewer:** The show touches on heavy themes surrounding motherhood, societal expectations, and gender roles. Can you elaborate on the narrative and the messages you hope to convey?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely. At its core, “Agoramana” is about a new mother grappling with the overwhelming pressures of parenthood. Our story raises critical questions: Is she the only one feeling this way? Why does society place so much value on motherhood to define a woman’s worth? Through a mix of stand-up comedy, documentary style, and musical theater, we’re encouraging all viewers—regardless of gender—to reflect on the narratives society promotes about family and happiness.
**Interviewer:** The show also touches upon the concept of obstetric violence, which is quite a serious issue. How do you address this within the play?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** We weave it into the narrative through storytelling and personal anecdotes. By addressing obstetric violence, we aim to shed light on an often-taboo subject, providing a safe space for dialog. It’s crucial for anyone who has experienced this to know they are not alone and that support is available.
**Interviewer:** Each performance features a different guest. What do you hope these guests bring to the show?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** The guests add a unique perspective that enriches the central themes. They help to broaden the discussion, connecting personal experiences to societal issues. This diversity encourages audiences to engage in a deeper dialog about the pressures of parenting, relationships, and social expectations.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, what do you want the audience to take away from watching “Agoramana”?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope that after watching, audiences will feel empowered to question societal norms and begin conversations about their own experiences and struggles. We want to foster a sense of community and understanding, reminding everyone that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed, and that support and solidarity are key in navigating these challenges.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Aphrodite. We’re looking forward to “Agoramana” in Patras!
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I can’t wait to share the stage with our audience and guests in Patras. It’s going to be a meaningful experience for all of us.
